Space for Green Finance: Space for Green Finance — How Space Data Is Shaping the Future of Green Investment and Sustainability G-SFIA 2026 Side Event / Seminar
Earth observation (EO) and other space-derived data are becoming central to decisions on climate resilience, infrastructure and sustainable finance. Japan hosts one of the most mature EO ecosystems in Asia, and a fast-growing group of startups is applying satellite data across agriculture, disaster management, infrastructure and more.
Yet the policy and finance communities that most need this data often engage with the space sector too late, or only through a narrow environmental lens.
In this seminar, JAXA and NEDO set out the policy context, and companies that turn satellite data into business — across agriculture, forestry, infrastructure and insurance — present their services. Each speaks to two questions: What decision does the data unlock? And what financial instrument or investment case does it enable? Green finance and sectoral decision-making are treated as a single continuum, not as two separate themes. The seminar also looks at how companies outside the space sector are putting this data to work.
The seminar is moderated by the Centre for Sustainability and Resilience at the European Space Policy Institute (ESPI). Held the day after the G-SFIA flagship conference on November 4, the seminar is co-organized by ESPI and FINOLAB and carries that conversation into a focused, sector-by-sector discussion.
